Journey to Jupiter: Discover the Life You'll Create

Jun 10, 2022

Born in Portland, Oregon, Travis Opocensky graduated from Portland State University with a degree in psychology after dabbling in mathematics, journalism, and jazz drumset for many years. After graduation, he moved to Shanghai to work as a music education consultant teaching Chinese teachers how to teach American style marching band. Then, he moved to Sydney Australia to pursue Peace and Conflict Studies in graduate school. He also holds a certificate in Health and Humanitarian Supply Chain Management from Georgia Tech.

Now living in Atlanta, Georgia, Travis works in international development at Palladium International as the climate and environment lead for the procurement, logistics, and supply chain management portfolio during the day. In his other time, he runs RightBoot, a humanitarian start up that works to bring the principles of the circular economy to humanitarian aid.

In this episode, Travis shares:

  • how following his values has guided him on his career journey

  • why it took him 7 years to earn his undergraduate degree and what advice he gives to high school graduates

  • the difference between academic success and academic application as well as why the latter is critical

  • how particular classes can point you in the direction of a potential career field

  • how running his own humanitarian nonprofit served as a launchpad for the full-time role he's currently in
